Joining the TFS

The Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) is a dynamic place to work. We do a wide range of work and value the role and the efforts of our people in delivering our services. Whether you want to be at the front line of our operations as a career or volunteer firefighter, providing life saving fire safety advice to the community, co-ordinating the communication and dispatch in Firecomm, building and maintaining our communications system and fire appliances, or providing administrative services there is rewarding work to be done.

The TFS works hard to have a safe work place where people are able to fulfil their potential and contribute to the achievement of our goals. We want a workforce where diversity in all areas is valued, particularly in the areas of gender and ethnicity. It is our view that the way we deliver our services will be improved if we have people from a wide range of backgrounds and social groups working in our organisation.

The TFS is part of the Tasmanian State Service. Volunteer members are not employees of the State Service, but are covered by the State Service Principles. Career employees are selected on the basis of merit. Vacancies are advertised on the Tasmanian Government Jobs Website , and in the Tasmanian State Services Notices section of the Tasmanian Government Gazette and, in some cases, local and national newspapers. Information regarding current vacancies is also available here.
